COMMUNITY WOODLAND

PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

Individual Prizes - First, second and third prizes will be awarded in each of three age groups. First prize winners in each category will have their images reproduced as one of a set of four postcards to be distributed nationwide. The judges for the age group categories will include Matthew Dalziel of the artistic partnership Dalziel + Scullion www.dalzielandscullion.com . A fourth, individual prize will be selected from all the other entries by CWA Directors. The winner in this category will also have their image reproduced as a postcard to make up the set of four.

Community Woodland Prize - There is also a prize for one lucky Community Woodland member group. The prize will be a fantastic one day photography workshop with a professional photographer, for up to 10 participants. The photographer will be selected by CWA and we will also be able to offer support to arrange the event and take bookings if you would like help. All you have to do is provide the woodland venue.

The winning community woodland will be chosen via a prize draw. All entries, submitted by the 1st September 2008 deadline, will go into a 'hat' and the workshop prize will be awarded to the first member woodland out the 'hat'.

David Graham Scott of Wick has directed a chapter of the feature documentary ‘The New Ten Commandment’s' which was screened at the Edinburgh Film festival on 28th June. The film commemorates the 60th anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights and covers 10 basic human rights as interpreted by a selection of experienced Scottish filmmakers including Kenny Glenaan, Douglas Gordon, Tilda Swinton, Irvine Welsh and Mark Cousins. CAITHNESS QUILTERS SUMMER EVENT

Caithness Quilters’ big event for the summer is their annual Gala Exhibition in Wick Assembly Rooms on Thursday July 31stfrom 10.00 to 4.00.This year the Quilters are joining with Wick SWRI to exhibit Quilting and Handicrafts. Admission to the exhibition is £2.00 and includes coffee and home baking. Quilts and other items on show reflect the Quilter’s ‘Beautiful Bags’ theme for 2008/9 and also include entries and the winning quilt from the Caithness Highland Trophy Competition, ‘Black and White with a splash of Colour’.

CAITHNESS HANDBELL RINGERS

The Caithness Handbell Ringers meet every Saturday morning from 10am - 12pm in the BB Hall in Thurso.

Performances are given throughout the year to support charitable bodies and for the public in general.  Some performance highlights from 2007 include: Caithness Music Festival, Wick Church Concert, Salvation Army Carol Service and the Caithness Orchestra concert.

We are always looking for new members to expand our team.

No experience necessary.
