WELCOME TO THE CAITHNESS ARTS WEBSITE

Caithness Arts was created in 2002 by a study group who first met in 1996 with the object of providing improved community/arts facilities in Caithness.

The Company is now recognised as being the principal organisation in Caithness devoted to the development of the Arts in  Caithness which covers a broad spectrum to include writing, music, drama, visual arts, dance, photography and crafts.

Since our formation the main objectives have been twofold, namely the establishment of suitable venues in Thurso and Wick, and the promotion of Caithness Arts Week which was first held in 2005. This expanded to a 37 event Arts Week in September of 2006, and a major 40-event Festival in 2007 which formed part of the Highland 2007 Year of Culture celebrations.

In addition, we produce a bi-monthly What's On Guide and Newsletter, the latest copies of which can be found here on our website.

If you have any questions about Caithness Arts, our website or any aspect of our work, please get in touch.

WHERE WE ARE

Caithness Arts is based in Thurso, a town and a burgh on the north coast of Scotland. It is the northernmost town on the British mainland, situated at the northern extreme of the A9 road, the main road linking Caithness with the south of the country, and is 20 miles (32 km) west of John O' Groats and 21 miles (34 km) northwest of Wick, the closest town. The nearest city is Inverness, some 110 miles (177 km) to the south. Thurso is the most northerly location served by the Britain's rail network, which links the town directly with Wick, the county town of Caithness, and with Inverness, which is the administrative centre of the Highland Council area.
